FIELDS RACING M1 FASTRACK EARN VICTORY AT BELLE ISLE GRAND PRIX WITH MARCELLI
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Richmond, Virginia) June 7, 2016 – Celebrating it’s 50th anniversary, the Trans Am Series made it’s long-awaited return to the city of Detroit with the Motor City 100, presented by 3-Dimensional Services Group. This marked the first return of the series since 2001.
It was a cinderella story for Fields Racing who made their 2016 Trans Am Series debut at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix with Canadian racing driver Kyle Marcelli. The young team based out of Richmond, Virginia set the fastest lap in Friday qualifying earning the pole position for Saturday’s race. Unfortunately, the team failed post qualifying tech inspection which meant the #96 M1 Fastrack/ MBRP race car driven by Kyle Marcelli would have to start at the rear of the TA2 grid. Marcelli, knowing that he had a good race car to work with, was up for the challenge. With less than 10-minutes remaining in the 50-minute sprint race, Marcelli took the lead and would go on to win the race, earning Fields Racing their first Trans Am Series victory.
“This was a very emotional win for us.” Said Team Manager, Lee Quinlan. “The Fields Racing team has put so much hard work and many sleepless nights into this program and to have it pay off at such a special event is truly amazing. Kyle did a fantastic job working his way up from the rear of the field while taking excellent care of the car. I was extremely pleased with the speed and strength that the M1 FASTRACK chassis displayed on such a demanding circuit.”
“When Fields Racing brought Kyle on board, our goal was simple. We wanted to develop the M1 Fastrack chassis, prove it’s strength and competitiveness in the Trans Am Series TA2 class and ultimately expand Fields Racing with more of these chassis’ on the race track.” Said Team Owner, Chris Liesfeld.
“I’m very happy to have rewarded Fields Racing with their first victory in the Trans Am Series. Said Race Driver Kyle Marcelli. “These guys all have full-time jobs outside of Fields Racing and have literally put in all-nighters to make this program happen. I’m thankful for their hard work, dedication and passion.”
“These cars are a lot of fun to drive, and the racing is very exciting.” Continued Kyle Marcelli. The TA2 class has become quite competitive. I was really pleased with the quality of racing. I was raced hard for every position but also raced with a lot of respect.”
Coverage from the Motor City 100 will be broadcasted on CBS Sports Network on Saturday, July 02, 2016 with a 90-minute, two-race special, on Saturday, July 02, 2016 at 12:00 PM ET.
Next on the schedule for Fields Racing is Trans Am Series Round 9 at Virginia International Raceway on September 23-24, 2016.
